Keira Franz is a policy advisor to NAWG on conservation, environmental and agricultural policy issues.
Franz has more than 20 years of experience in Washington, D.C., serving most recently as a senior professional staff member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry. There, she was responsible for developing the conservation and energy titles of the 2012 Farm Bill proposal as passed in the Senate, and she handled conservation, renewable energy, pesticide, biotechnology and environmental issues while working for Ranking Member Senator Pat Roberts (R-Kan.).
Prior to her work on the Senate Agriculture Committee, Franz was director of the Legislative Affairs Division of USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), responsible for overseeing the Division staff and managing contacts with Congressional offices, developing briefings and tours for Congressional staff and preparing USDA leaders for meetings and hearings on Capitol Hill.
Franz has also lobbied on behalf of the National Association of Conservation Districts, United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association (United Fresh) and the National Corn Growers Association, focusing on conservation, environmental, biotechnology, nutrition, transportation and pesticide issues.
Franz began her career in D.C. working for former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole (R-Kan.). She holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from the University of Kansas and a master’s degree in environmental science and policy from Johns Hopkins University.
